I just started going to school again after a very long (nearly 10 year) hiatus and decided that I was going to dive into my math prerequisites first, to finally get them out of the way. I’m terrible at math and my advisor registered me for PreCalculus Algebra. I was freaking out until I found this book and started reviewing it. While it wasn’t the answers to everything there is to know about precal, it was an amazing book as it taught me everything I needed to know about the fundamentals of Algebra. It’s written for high school students but it was still a great book and very easy to use and learn. The examples and the problems to work out were top notch. So far I’m doing great with precal and it’s all because of this book! GET IT NOW!

This book and its companion workbook are the best! It is step by step and EXPLAINS everything every step of the way. The book is very thorough without being overwhelming. Those afraid of math – buy this book as it doesn’t talk over your head.

Buy the companion workbook and you won’t regret that purchase either. I purchased the Algebra Survival Guide and its companion workbook at overstock dot com. Use ebates dot com to get cash back. Prices vary so compare to see which website is cheaper.

Excellent book on the Rules of Algebra. Discusses and demonstrates the “Why”of Numbers, and the steps involved in solving equations.
266 pages jam-packed with useful information and helpful tips, designed to lead you to the correct steps and solutions. 3 pages dedicated to Glossary Terms, and a foldout at the end of the book for the “Emergency Fact Sheet.”
Well written and easy to use, this book would get my highest rating . It achieves what it meant to do, clearly and concisely explain the math rules of Algebra, and let the reader feel comfrotable in doing so. Best book on the subject by far.

This is the greatest math book you will ever read, but know that this is for Pre-Algebra. It does not cover functions or logarithms at all. I read this book thoroughly in 2 weeks and did all of the practice questions and did not find any major errors (a few grammatical errors). This definitely refreshed me in algebra and I even learned a few new things. I tried jumping from this book to a college algebra book and was completely lost. I will need to transition into Algebra I or II for Dummies before reading my college algebra book. I wish Josh Rappaport would write more books like this for advanced algebra and calculus.

The Algebra Survival Guide by Josh Rappaport is the book I go to when I must tutor algebra to students who are truly and thoroughly befuddled. They find it clear, fun to read, well organized, and not at all confusing and in teeny type like their class texts. They like the size of it, the color, and the accessibility. As a tutor, I like all of these, as well as the fact that it does not divide Algebra into Algebra 1/2 and 3/4. Students who are lost don’t need to know what level they are studying, especially is they are from very competitive schools where your level really matters. This little book takes a load off. If the tutor herself is not a math whiz (me) the books enables me to teach algebra well and to feel confident in what I am doing. Thanks for the work book and answers — that really helps students solidfy their skills. I have looked at all products on the market in this subject area, and I always come back to this one.
