Purchased for my 8 year old son’s desk, and it’s perfect for his pencils. He can empty it himself and it does a nice job. It does, however, require a lot of batteries.
This sharpener works okay sometimes (not often). I am a teacher. When I use this sharpener on more expensive pencils, I usually don’t have a problem. When I use it with pencils that may have imperfections, or are not made of hard wood, the sharpener just eats them. It takes off whole chunks and breaks the lead before making it sharp. It’s way cute and I am going to take it home to use it for personal use, but it deffinately isn’t for cheap pencils or quick use.
I bought this pencil sharpener because I wanted a battery-powered unit that I could keep on my desk. I must admit that I was also attracted to the small size and attractive looks. Well, that was a big mistake! The first one arrived and sharpened *one* pencil with no problem. The next time I inserted a pencil, the sharpener “grabbed” it, began to rotate furiously, but did not sharpen. I removed the pencil and tried another one and then still one more, with the same result each time. I returned it to amazon.com with a request for an exchange. They complied quickly, with no hassle, and also paid for postage. Unfortunately, the second unit also did not work (this time, from the very first pencil). The second unit just grinds and grinds (but does not “grab” like the first one), but it never sharpens.
Bottom line: This is a cute pencil sharpener, but is good only as a paperweight. Try another product.
Happens to match wifes desk decor and works really well. Still on original batteries and no lack of power.
The sharpener worked moderately well (for a chepaer unit) for about two months, and then broke for good. The workload was small: about 3-4 pencils a week. I’d suggest not to settle for this quality. For me, it was a waste of my money.
