I needed an affordable and efficient pencil sharpener for my classroom. It sharpened some pencils, but others on only one side. It started getting louder after only a week. 20 minutes fter sharpening 21 pencils in a row, it randomly turned on and would not shut off without unplugging it. Now even if plugged in, it won’t stop running and doesn’t sharpen any pencils. Only lasted 4 weeks and sharpened less than 100 pencils.

I’m an art teacher at an elementary school and I ordered one of these last year. It’s still working great, but I don’t have faith that ANY pencil sharpener can withstand two years of use (about 20 pencils every day), so I’m preemptively ordering another one.

When I first got this I was unhappy with it because it seemed to sharpen crooked, but when I got used to it it started sharpening everything perfectly. It has a goofy trigger, so when I use pencils that are slightly smaller (Papermates have a smaller circumference than other brands) I have to press it down. Also, it neatly sharpens really short pencils. The shavings box is small, which is a drawback.

My requirements for an electric sharpener though are satisfied: it sharpens quick, quietly, straight (with some getting-used to), and it has lasted!

But STILL, until I see a sharpener that has a five-star rating, I’m sticking with this one.

It was broken on the first day we got it. It would not stop running. Luckily I was able to return it and got refund. It’s not heavy duty at all.

I don’t expect much from a pencil sharpener- I expect it to sharpen. This one is doing a terrible job of that straight out of the box. I can’t speak to long-term reliability, but my first impression is that this thing is a giant waste of money.

This is the worst kind of Amazon product. Why? Because it works when you first get it, but then performance degrades and within 2 months, its a useless, non-functional product. But now it’s too late to return it, the packing boxes were long discarded, so I am stuck with the loss. The only satisfaction left to me is to possibly head off other shoppers from buying a flawed product. This was supposed to be a “heavy duty” sharpener, but I was never impressed. You had to hold a pencil “just right” to get a even cut around the lead, and it never seemed to fully sharpen without a few minutes of jiggling and twisting the pencil. And sure enough, after only 2 months of use by our family, it no longer functions: I can’t get it to sharpen to a point, and I get a ragged cut around the lead. I have taken to using a knife again. Primitive, but effective. Heavy duty? Well, maybe as a paper weight.
